In the past elections for Judge, Jeff had hundreds of supporters, mostly the attorneys who practiced in his court. He recognizes there is a public perception that judges are influenced by endorsements and large political contributions in elections. Additionally, the 2009 US Supreme Court Case of Caperton v. Massey Coal and the two recent Texas criminal cases involved the disqualification of judges to hear a case because of large contributions and endorsements made by attorneys practicing before them. Therefore, Jeff has declined to accept endorsements from attorneys or campaign contributions in excess of $50.00 from anyone.
